Summerhill

Centrally located between Midtown and Downtown, Summerhill perfectly harmonizes the vibrant, ultra-convenient lifestyle of a major city with the quiet and neighbourly ambience of a small town. Offering the best of both worlds, Summerhill is a sought-after neighbourhood where great homes don’t often last long in the marketplace.

The History of Summerhill

Summerhill is located around the site of the former Summer Hill Estate – an expansive 200-acre property that covered a large portion of contemporary Midtown Toronto.

In the mid-1800s, Summer Hill Estate was home to ‘Summer Hill Spring Park and Pleasure Grounds’, a popular amusement park complete with rides, games, swimming pools and a dance pavilion. Around the turn of the 20th century, the estate was subdivided for development, transforming the once eclectic park into a quaint suburb.

Living in Summerhill

Summerhill’s unique location, atmosphere, and lifestyle opportunities attract residents from a wide range of demographics. The neighbourhood’s delicate balance between urban and suburban energy makes it suitable for young professionals, families, and downsizers alike.

While the community itself is fairly diverse, one thing most residents have in common is refined, upscale tastes. While Summerhill’s affluence is visible in its housing stock, it’s also an influential factor in local amenities, with a few of Toronto’s top high-end restaurants being nestled along Yonge Street.

Our Summerhill Favourites

  • David A. Balfour Park: Centered around the Rosedale Ravine, David A. Balfour Park is a natural oasis that feels far removed from the city – despite being just steps away from Yonge Street. Here you’ll find winding trails for walking, jogging, or cycling, picturesque views, and charming wooden bridges that cross Yellow Creek.
  • Incredible Dining: Summerhill is one of Toronto’s best-kept culinary secrets. Along Yonge Street, there are a number of fabulous high-end dining options including Terroni, Sorrel, and Nadège Patisserie. MICHELIN Starred restaurants can be found in nearby Yorkville.
  • Ramsden Park: One of Toronto’s best outdoor spaces, Ramsden Park is a one-stop destination for outdoor leisure. Summerhill residents can take advantage of great features such as a skating and hockey rink, tennis courts, an off-leash dog park, a playground and more.

What Stands Out in Summerhill?

Summerhill is home to a unique but important piece of Toronto history: the former North Toronto Railway Station. Once a critical railway hub that played a major role in the settling and growth of Midtown Toronto, the historic station was built back in 1916. While today the structure is home to a liquor store, it’s still an impressive architectural gem that adds distinction to the neighbourhood.
